RUMSEY RUNABOUT

ROTARY ENGINE PATENT

RUMSEY'S BRITISH PATENTS Rumsey obtained four British patents, the first several months after his arrival in England in 1788 and the last several months before his sudden death there in 1792. He had many ideas, but many were never drawn, and almost none of his drawn devices were ever built. Still, his genius can be seen in these detailed drawings.

RIGHT, steam enters through the hollow shaft (A, Fig 12) and flows through the rotor arms (D, Fig 13).

It expands between the rotor and moveable stops (G, Fig 13) to turn the rotor.

As the rotor runs, cams (N, Fig 14) bear against the rollers (R, Fig 14) to push moveable stops out of the way.

Condensed steam is drawn out through the rotor arms (H, Fig 13) by a condenser gear pump (L, L, Fig 12).
